I am driving to the golf course listening to Philippe Pascal Garnier’s new CD, The Healing Sound Of Crystal. I am thinking about a conversation I had with Philippe about the difference between music healing and sound healing at the Sound Symposium in Phonecia New York. Although I am trained as a musician, I can clearly remember my experiences as a child, without music training, making sounds. I had no idea of music, notes, composition, and rhythm. I just entered into the magic of the sound.

I believe that Shamans use a natural childlike ability to enter sound and used it as a gateway into alternate realities for healing. They do not need hundreds of hours of musical training. They have an ability as adults to open their consciousness to the sound and enter into a resonate relationship which can empower the sound. In other words, the sound is embedded with an intention which is the result of the Shaman’s relationship with the needs of who he is working with. They are then able to “travel” for the highest good of another using the sound as a “philosophers stone” that automatically opens healing doorways.

So I am driving and all of these thoughts are moving through my neural net. I remember making a left turn onto a main road and thinking of Dane Rudhyar’s book The Magic of Tone and The Art of Music. I accelerated just as a crystal bell tone on track 2, Angelic Connection, caught my attention. There was something about it that drew me “inside the sound”. Almost simultaneously a very large and unusual flatbed truck pulled out in front of me. On the flatbed was what appeared to be a huge monolithic structure. The tone was sounding and my mind kept trying to figure out what was on the back of the truck. I had never seen anything like it.

The truck was moving at a snails pace and I could not pass due to the double yellow lines. The crystal tones continued to reverberate as the CD moved on to track 3 (Crystal Light. I felt myself slow down and suddenly I was transported to another reality. The structure on the back of the truck became an “ancient tower” that opened a gateway to another world. It was very old and mysterious. It vibrated like a tuning fork. The tones of the crystal bowls and the structure were in perfect sync. I sensed that something very special was being “downloaded” into my neural net.

In normal time, it would take me 10 minutes to get to the golf course. As I followed the truck, listening to Philippe’s crystal bowls and allowing my consciousness to merge with the structure, I was functioning “out of normal time”.
When the turn for the golf course came I was near the near the end of the CD. My body automatically made the turn and just like that I was in normal time. I noticed the CD that the trip had taken me 20 minutes.

To this day I have no idea what the structure was on the back of the flatbed truck. It had to be very heavy and at least ten feet high. It was covered in dirt and there were all sorts of strange angles and edges. What I know for sure is that that there are crystal tones in Philippe’s CD that are very special. He has the ability of a Shaman to enter into sound and intertwine his consciousness in order to open up new possibilities. When this happens the “magic of tone” is transformed into the essence of music.
